Au Naturel
How do you capture the essence of a rain forest? King's Art director Jouko Laune wanted as much control as possible over the product's appearance and for instance the style of the water drops until the entire look of the image was complete. Fake to the rescue, with a 3D-generated can in hand!
The can can itself was not shot on location, but built in 3D by Fake Digital Artist Janne Mäkinen. A high dynamic range environment map was stored of the location in South Africa, and used for image-based lighting and reflections on the cider cans. This way the starting point of the can's lighting could be perfectly matched with the fruits shot on location.
The background plates used as the basis for the images were shot by photographer Antti Viitala in South Africa. Fake Digital Artist Tuomas Korpi used the photographs to compile an orchard that frames the can and continues temptingly into the background. The goal was to create a strong feel of mystique and fairy tales.
