Channel Four Finland Soho

Channel Four Soho

29th December 2006 - Tommi Lähde and Tuomo Kulomaa from Channel Four Finland approached Fake wanting to produce a four-part ident to advertise the new programming slot Soho for lifestyle programs. The goal was to create novel, fresh and distinguishable imagery to a strictly defined target group and to highlight the programs' different themes design, beauty and well-being, food, travel and gardening.

Fake developed an idea of creating the film of still-life photographs with 2,5D technique by building locations of layered photographs into 3D space. Animator Mari Tolkkinen built moodboards for the different themes and the locations were then chosen together with Producer Sari Vierula and Photographer Kimmo Virtanen based on these moodboards. The locations were initially shot roughly with a pocket camera. An animatic was built based on these photos and was then used to work on the storyboard and soundscape.

On the day of the shoot, Kimmo shot the locations in layers by placing elements on the same depth plane onto one plate. This way elements at different distances from the camera could naturally move in a space with the animated 3D elements. The film's spaces are new interpretations of the locations. The intention was not to copy any certain location but to build interesting surroundings for the themes.

The film was color graded and mastered at Fake and the sounds were created by Humina.
