Fish-eyes, mind's eye
Fake's take:
From the vibrant, hand-drawn storyboard sketch by Artist Tuomas Korpi, through the field trip to the local aquarium, and all the way to filleting all kinds of fish for texture reference, this job took Fake once again underwater.
Going for the ultra-realistic look decided on by AD Axa Fahler of PHS, Digital Artist Mikko Lahti composed a scene with fully-modeled crawfish, extremely lifelike schools of fish made possible by cool crowd handling algorithms, and suave fluid simulation to boot. Heidi Härkönen's texture maps, the result of some fishy hands-on research, brought the marine fauna to life.
