Greenpeace Snowman
The snowman's out. Hailing from the frozen North, Fake is the
obvious choice for all things snowman. AD Mikko Torvinen of
TBWA SA initially planned for a photorealist rendering of an
el cheapo plastic snowman, complete with shoddy mold marks
and bad colouring, in a rather watery globe. After Artist Tuomas
Korpi's concept sketches were tried out in the target market,
an approach far more true to the image of a snow man was
chosen; the figure gained a brimmed hat, the classic
woollen scarf, coal buttons, and other snowman essentials.
Once ready, Digital Artist Heidi Härkönen's 3D model was plunged in
the globe. The difficulty here was to express the idea of the
model being submerged, while not going for a too realistic
distortion of the underwater lighting, eventually achieved
by adding an air bubble above, and miniscule bubbly effects.
